Mobile Attendant Care Service MACS
was established in 1992 in order to provide night-time support for people with
physical disabilities who need personal care assistance throughout the night.
return to top of page.
Founding members and present committee and Staff believe:
* Most people prefer to live outside
of institutional care and where they can make 'decisions about their fives and
lifestyles
* People with physical disabilities often need only a small but vital amount
of support in order to get through the night
* A house and some support hours do not necessarily provide a lifestyle. When
daytime support hours are used up people may socialise, study, work etc. and
access MACS when they are ready to retire.
In order to use the service a person must
* Live in the community in the area
in which MACS operates
* Have a physical disability
* Have the ability to direct and monitor the Attendant's work.
* Be less than 65 years of age.
